I went there with my buddy to buy a car and no one even looked at us when we walked in. Every salesperson was just sitting around talking with each other. We walked up to the salesperson and asked about the Camrys. The sales person pointed outside and told us to walk into the back lot. We walked back there and had to find the Camrys’. NO HELP AT ALL…We left and I immediately drove over to the Toyota in Westmont and purchased my car. I will never go back there.

Overall the new car buying experience was pleasant up to a point. They wouldn’t move on the price much but they did a little because I told them I would not pay sticker price. Everything was fine up until we got to the Finance Manager who was absolute that we buy an extended warranty that I didn’t want or need and got steamed when I wouldn’t give in. He also got very iratated when told him I had arranged my own financing and wouldn’t be using his. Then when I produced a site-draft from my bank they acted like they had never seen one before! I almost walked then. They acted like they were doing me a favor by selling me a car! I no longer use this dealership for anything and would not recommend it to anyone.
First, they talked me out of having the car checked out (a 2000 VW) saying I would be “throwing my money away” because they had already thoroughly checked it out and fixed anything minor. He said if anything major was wrong they wouldn’t sell it on the lot, but rather put it up for auction because their reputation was “too important.” There was a very strong flowery smell and I was told it was from the detailing. A week later, as it wore off and my asthma worsened, I found out it was masking a strong gas fume odor inside the car. I called the manager (who had sent me a thank you letter saying “his door was always open”) and he didn’t return any of several phone messages. I finally got a different manager who told me to bring it in. After several hours I was told that there was a minor, tiny tear in the gas hose which they missed initally because they could only see it with infrared. And even though I had complained about the strong flowery smell masking the scent, when I got in to drive back home, AGAIN there was a strong flowery smell! And again, several days later, I could tell it had been masking the gasoline fumes. I took it elswhere and they found, in less than an hour and without any infrared, a badly torn, almost shredded gas hose! THey said not only was it bad for my breathing, but I was just lucky there hadn’t been a fire. So TWICE they let me drive away in a dangerous car with an engine saturated in gasoline! And my mechanic also found that the plastic oil dipstick holder had been broken and taped in two places. So much for fixing anything minor. AND it turns out it had never had a major tune up and needed new front brakes!
SEveral months after that, the oil light came on. I took it to another mechanic who said there must be a leak because there were only 1.5 quarts of oil in it. But my first mechanic sprayed it with ultraviolet spray and had me drive for a week and return. Once under the light, he could see that there was no oil leak. This means that the sticker they placed on my windshield showing they had done an oil change was yet another lie. There is no way that much oil could have been lost without a leak. They couldn’t have done an oil change. The decption and fraud I experienced here was horrendous. It has cost me over $800 more in repairs within 3 months of having the car (purchased without warrantee but with gret assurances from the salesperson) and also affected my health by setting my lungs back as I was recovering from a respiratory illness, and making my asthma worse. And I could have ended up dead or burned over most of my body, if so much as a cigarette was lit near the car. When I asked Elmhurst to first reimburse me for the gas hose they ignored me. Then, after I filed with the BBB and the State Atty. General’s office, they sent me a check. But unfortunatley both those cases were closed before I became aware of the additional expenses, which they are also ignoring. This has really set me back as far as my trust level. BEWARE!!!
