On June 26, 2009, we took our 1997 Chevrolet Astro Van to Eddie Accardi Chevrolet of Lake City, Florida for an estimate. The van has served us well for 342,266 miles and is still in good condition. The estimate was to remove and replace the fuel injectors, numbers 5 and 6 because they were leaking and to remove and replace the O2 sensor. The estimate total was $861. The invoice # for this estimate was CTCS158880. We decided the vehicle was worthy and took it back on June 27, 2009 to do the repair. We left it for a full week, returning on July 3, 2009 to pick it up and pay for services rendered. We arrived at the dealership and thought it strange that they could not find the paperwork. We waited. They brought us a copy of the same invoice; referenced above, that was for the estimate that cost $79.95 and would be absorbed into the repairs if we returned plus an oil change at $22.65, but not an invoice for estimated repairs. We started to think that the vehicle sat in the same spot from June 27 until July 3 when we came to pick it up and that they never did anything to it. We got the key and our suspicions were confirmed. We drove away and did not say a thing.
We went straight to a NAPA Certified Mechanic in Fort White who looked up the parts and labor to do the same work we thought we were having done in Lake City at Eddie Accardi Chevrolet. He stated that he could replace ALL six fuel-injectors for a fraction of the dealer’s estimate. We also had the dealership look at our A/C to determine why it was not working properly. THEY had repaired it a year ago. They stated, “Needs A/C mode door replaced-$441.” We had the mechanic in Fort White look at that as well. He went to the engine compartment and showed us that the vacuum hose had come off. He attached it and the A/C resumed to work; cost $20. We left the vehicle with this mechanic to remove and replace the fuel injectors, at an estimate not to exceed $700.
It is a shame that the dealership that sold the same vehicle cannot be honest and repair that vehicle without gouging the consumer. I also say that it is a shame that that corporation took our tax money to get them out of a bind but still went bankrupt, but now they want to gouge the consumer in the prices of their new and used vehicles by raising those prices well above what the vehicles are worth and are getting the money from both the government and the consumer. This consumer did not let it happen. We are not buying their vehicles and we are not going there for service. We are telling our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers; as well as posting this on the inter-net.
