My mother and I were online searching for my first car, being that I am so young we decided to look for a used car. We came across car city in Danbury and found a Gold/Tan 2005 Nissan Maxima. Everything was just perfect, well thats how they made it seem. We were excited that it was in such good shape a such a great price. However we live about an hour and a half away so this wasn’t a quick trip. We spoke to Charlie (the owner) twice on the phone and he ensured that the car was there and that I could look at it. We got there after a two hour drive and looked at the car and it was keyed up. On the hood of the car, the B word was written across it and the A word on the side with key scratches all over. Charlie never mentioned this because we would’ve never came that far for that. Charlie tried to sweet talk us into just getting a Honda civic but obviously that’s not what I wanted. How could you try to sell a car that is keyed up without telling the buyer as if I would like to drive around with profanity on my first car!!! I would not recommend this place, that was very sleezy of Charlie!
I initially stopped in to check out a truck that I saw online, but ended up buying a different one. They seem to have a lot more cars than they put online, not sure why. All in all I thought it was a good experience. They seemed to know enough about all the trucks to answer all of my questions, gave me a Carfax, and offered to put the truck on the lift so I can inspect the undercarriage, since Tacoma’s are notorious for rust. That was a new one for me. I’ve never had a dealership willing to let me inspect the undercarriage without having to crawl under it and get dirty.
My salesman (Brad, the owner maybe, not really sure,) asked me to leave feedback and told him I’d be glad to, once I had time to fully evaluate the truck. It’s been about 9 weeks since I drove off the lot and am now willing to leave feedback because the truck is great.
My daughter bought an 05 Civic. They seemed trustworthy and made buying the car easy. My daughter, wife, and myself all heard Brad say during the transaction, and I’m paraphrasing, “Even thought it’s sold ‘As Is’ if you have any issues let us know and we’ll stand behind the car”.
Evidently that means they stand behind the car, wave goodbye, and when you call with an issue they do nothing but tell you they’ll help and never do.
It soon became clear the car was sold by the previous owner because of a blown head gasket. I called Brad who told me his dad Charlie handled all the service. So far so good. Charlie asked for an estimate (we live 3 hours away). The first delay tactic was to tell us he thought the estimate was too high. I called another shop and got an estimate that was close to first one. Then Charlie said I should bring it to them and they would fix it. That morphed into them paying for less than half the repair. I asked if they would pay that amount if I had the repair done close to home and Charlie said yes. After a few more weeks and several phone calls they kept saying they would pay and the check never showed up.
I would not recommend buying a car from them.
Worst experience I’ve ever had with a dealer. We asked if anything was wrong with the car before test driving the car they said no. After taking it for a quick drive we noticed the car needed both front axles. We asked to have the car put up on a life and noticed a major oil leak. After a week of being promised the car we finally picked it up (after those few minor problems were fixed). The day we drove it home the tank was on empty, the horn did not function, a tire was popped, the car had been scratched on the bumper (was not there when we put down the down payment) , the car not only needed axles but also wheel barrings (which we noticed on the way home) , and lastly we thought the windshield was dirty due to a few streaks however it turned out that they had actually run the windshield wipers so low that they literally scratched deep into the windshield needing it to be replaced. All problems we noticed after driving it for a day or two… Problems that a “certified dealer” should have been able to recognize and address. In addition, when I tried to keep in contact with my “salesman” brad he actually told me I was aggravating him and that if I didn’t stop asking him about the car he would hang up and not answer the phone! This is a crappy dealership that takes advantage of people with bad credit, gives them not only a car loan but also a horribly functioning car with problems that are normally not easily noticed. STAY AWAY
Brad was honest from the start about information of the
vehicle.I would recommend car city to anyone, down payment
was low and prices are great A++++
I drove two and a half hours from Middleburgh NY to look at a GTI that was online PRAYING the entire way that the car was like it showed online. After wasting my time driving to 4 other dealerships only to be a victim of the ol’ “Bait and switch” tactic. I knew EXACTLY what I wanted and didn’t want some pushy salesman trying to convince me to “buy this, it’s just as good,” or the “I’m sorry, that vehicle sold a few days ago and we didn’t have a chance to take it offline yet.”
When I got to Car City I was VERY surprised because the GTI that was online, with the options that were listed and pictures that were shown were actually THE SAME!
I am very happy with the vehicle, the salesman Brad was great, the price was good, and the overall transaction was smooth as can be asked for.
If I am ever in the market for another used car I will save myself all the aggregation and driving and make 1 phone call to Brad and have him handle everything again.
Very nice people to deal with, kinda ruins that whole preconceived shady used car dealership/ salesman notion that we all grow up believing.
Excellent service. Personnel were respectful, friendly, and helpful. This was second purchase, first car was totaled. If I were going to purchase another vehicle I would certainly go to Car City of Danbury.
Great place! No fluff, no bull, just people that are really trying to help you rebuild your credit.
I too have purchased numerous vehicles from Car City, and wouldn’t go anywhere else.
They have always treated me fairly and met every need or concern that was brought up.
An overall great experience. They had enough cars to give me several options, yet not so many that I felt overwhelmed.
A few easy stipulations to get my loan finalized and 2 days later my wife drove out in her new Grand Caravan.
I am very happy with my purchase from Car City.
The 04 Elentra I bought had a few issues when I first looked at it on the lot, (it’s 8 years old, of course its going to have something wrong with it,) but as soon as I committed to purchasing the car all of the problems were resolved with no run around from the dealership.
I would recommend them to anyone with bad or no credit looking to buy a car.
I had terrible Credit and was afraid that I would have to pay through the roof for a car. I saw a sign on the window that said BAD CREDIT NO PROBLEM. So I decided to try them out. I was so relieved when Brad (Salesperson) informed me of all my options. He put me in a car that was a late model and it didn’t hurt my checkbook. I enjoyed the buying process so much that I purchased a second car there.
I was a bit skeptical because of some poor reviews that I read elsewhere but my transaction went perfectly. So perfectly that I went back and bought another car. Yes, the cars had some minor issues that were only discovered after driving them for a while but hey, they are used, right? When I went back for service I expected a hassle but no. I was treated extremely well and was even given a loaner while repairs were being done. I highly recommend this dealer. I suspect that the people who are posting the negatives are people who have issues if you know what I mean.
I knew I was going to be a “credit challanged” customer, and was expecting to have to deal with some 100,000+ mileage car that I would have to “like,” but not love.
Car City does have it figured out though. Within 10 minuites of walking into the salesman’s office I was approved for financing, (at a pretty high APR though) on a 2009 Honda Accord LX. A REALLY nice car, 40k miles… MUCH better than I was expecting.
