Was shopping for certified Honda Accord on line. Late in January I find two (2) listings of certified Honda accords at McGrath City Honda in Chicago lot # HPH3780 and # HPH 3781 same year 2010 and almost same miles – 44k. Contacted sales over the phone. Sales person name Thomas K. says over the phone cars are certified. Agree come for test drive on February 2nd. No doubt in my mind as cars listed as CERTIFIED. Even Friday night call 2-1-13 call Mr. Thomas and schedule appointment next day early in the morning. Next day early in the morning me and my wife went to McGrath Honda. An our arrival around 8:00am. Chaos is started. Mr. Thomas cant find car HPH 3781 and he has talk to Mr. David this was my favor to look first. Anyway agree to test drive HPH3780. First open trunk and I see car mats in trunk. Gas tank was totally empty and red light was on. Make ride of couple blocks and agree to buy this car. And here come negotiation. In my mind they use old “Torching” tactic. Try exhausts us. I asked Mr. Thomas many, many times about gas tank and he says NO PROBLEM, we fill up full, because my trade car was full tank of gas more than 26 gal and more than $100. Some how survive torches both sides agree on trade and numbers. After long 4-5 hours of torching we survive. Here comes paper signing procedure and car is NOT certified it will cost me extra $1700 to certified. Instead that I agree to buy extended warranty of $1600. But problems not stopped there. In my many , many asking’s of empty gas tank I always heard same answer don’t worry, we fill up full gas tank. Moment of truth. Swap the cars. I take my belongings from my car to put to my new accord. And gas tank still empty. Mr. Thomas says we just put few gallons. Any way Mr. Thomas says go to gas station fill up and call me and I will send you check. That’s what I did . Went to gas station fill up almost 14 gal and $ 50.01. Call to Mr. Thomas and say the price, after that I say I will split difference, which Mr. Thomas agree and promised to send me a check. Now almost 2 month later still no check . Now I want full amount of $ 50.01. On arrival home those car mats no where was founded and immediately call back to McGrath and speak with Mr. David, which says don’t wary come back at any time and I give you. Fallowing week I call back and speak With Mr. David about car mats he says your sales person was Mr. Thomas, speak with Thomas and he says he has no authority. BE WARE NO CAR MATS!!! AND NO GAS!!!
I bought a used Hyundai with it in the contract the the service department take care of a few minor issues. Since I live out of state and the work couldn’t be done at the time of purchase, Frank set up a weekend for me to bring the car back in. I emailed him twice before coming in, asking if he had the parts I needed and reminding him that since it was a 4 hour drive for me, the parts had to be there. He assured me they were. When I got to the dealership, lo and behold, no parts. I demanded he have it taken care of in my state, to which he responded that I wasn’t worth the time or money. His manager was just as useless. I’ve never been more furious about the way I was treated. Now I have to figure out when to drive the 4 hours back to these jerks to do what they were supposed to get done the first time.
Earl was unprofessional, LOW BALLED me badly on my trade in. Waited in a heated sales office for 4 hours while supposedly the person was test driving my car. ALL their new cars have a white sticker attached next to the window sticker……BIG SCAM….it had items such as door moldings? which is a standard item ! Was trying to pressure me that the car I was interested was seen by someone else earlier in the day who wants to buy it, so I told him ” Well tell him to buy it then”. I wouldnt buy a bicycle from McGrath Hyundai….
Disgusted by service, was spoken to in a very degrading manner, general manager was disrespectful and unable to assist, finance personel kept waiting for hours and threw our papaer owrk at us when we were through signing. Car was “purchased” Saturday 11/27 and as of 11/29 has not been picked up and was never driven off of lot and now sale cannot even be cancelled. car is not even in possesion of owner. Jody was disrespectful and nasty. Would strongly advise not to purchse from McGrath!

This is for Mcgrath Honda City in Chicago. This salesman Dave Kazarian upsold me a certified warranty for $500 saying that it covered 100000 miles beyond what the car had on it. When I got the warranty card in the mail it actually only covered up to 100000 miles…big difference. I was quite upset and asked for a refund and he said there was nothing he could do. Very crooked…never trust this salesmand, I also caught him in a few white lies while we were there. Avoid!
It’s a nightmare that I am undergoing right now for having paid over 1.5 grands of extra money that was never there on the deal in the first place. The Sales people are smart enough to make you accept and then bring you to the finance dept. You’ll never get to see your salesman again after that.
I was given a quote for 13 grands. It comes with a bumper to bumper warranty for an extra cost of 800 bucks. I bargained with my sales man and managed to bring the warranty inclusive of the 13 grands. All went on well and the “finance guy” made me sign the contract. But here comes the trick part. It’s pathetic that I realized this only after a month. He (the finance guy) had craftily included a 1600 buck worth of extended warranty coverage from no where and i was dumbstruck to know that I had signed right on top of it without even knowing it. I believed them that I didn’t read the figures properly and this was a stupid mistake. 🙁
I’ll never have any deal with them again. They are money minded and they just want to sell the maximum number of cars and earn their bonus. They do not give a thing to the customer. They hardly take your phone calls once they get the money in hand.
Enter at your own risk. I would definitely “not” recommend this dealer especially if you’re going for a used car. It’s waste of your time and more importantly utter waste of your “money”.
I bought a pre-owned certified Honda Accord (2006) and my wife and I actually enjoyed the experience.
My wife insisted pre-driven cars are the way to go in this economy, I could only agree if it was a car that was certified by Honda and a warranty was available.
Our salesman was nice and we found a car both my wife and I wanted. For the price we feel we have taken advantage of this economy to get the most out of what we were willing to spend.
I noticed the comment made on this web site before we bought and while I am sure the experience of car buying is different for everyone, I came back to simply post that I would in fact recommend McGrath City Honda to anyone.
Buyer Beware! Horrible customer service! Spent over 4 hours waiting for “just a few more minutes” or was told by the saleman and finance dept. Finally finished all the paperwork, signed off, gave them our money and drove off in our new car only to get a call 2 days later saying that our financing fell through! We had all contracts and legal documents signed and they cashed our check. HUGE SCAM!
