We went to Rhoden via a reference from 1-800-Bar-None. Their Finance Dept is their official representative in this area. The finance rep stated up front he was not a salesman, but a credit rep. All his tactics, long waits, delays, time away from us and his desk, and finally pressure to buy a vehicle we had not even seen, or selected, was the final offense.
This individual stated my son, 22, college student, and 1st time buyer, with a good credit score but not a long work history was not a good candidate for a standard loan. He wanted to borrow $6500 with a payment of $200 a month.
The rep pushed for a sale of a car at nearly $9000, with a payment to include a required extended warranty. This added up to a payment of $341 a month with an interest rate of 16%. Well out of his limited budget. The pitch was that my son had limited credit availability and that he would have to settle for what they could offer him.
After 3 hours of delays, and waiting, we finally got a look at a car. It had higher miles than his selected vehicle. At this point we decided we had had enough of the misdirection into a vehicle he did not want.
We went back to the original dealership, All Star Auto of Omaha, and within 15 minutes, we had a vehicle loan at a rate of 18% for the first year, but within my son’s selected budget payment of $200-250 a month.
Why did Rhoden not do this with a full finance department with tremendous resources and assets as they so bragged. One man, a computer, and 15 minutes, was all it took to take care of business at All Star Auto. Granted, I was not comfortable with the higher interest rate, I was very pleased that they found a way to give my son the chance he needed to establish his credit and get a vehicle he needed to get to work in any weather condition. A 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer, with 100,008 miles.
My apologies, I would NOT recommend to buy from this dealership…
