It’s the trickle down theory in practice. Treat people like you would want to be treated… everyday. This seems to be the mantra at Holm Automotive in Abilene, KS. Tim and his staff of professionals do all the little things to make a person feel welcome and comfortable. There are no high pressure sales, shady deals, underhanded dealings, or anything you typically think of when one thinks of car dealers. The sales and support staff are good down home people who genuinely care about each individual who comes in. As far as going that extra mile… well, i submit this recent experience for your consideration
Recently, August, 2010, my daughter purchased a used car from Holm’s. “Her dream car” as she called it was a 2006 Chevy Cobalt with a standard transmission and all the usual bells and whistles. Last week she called me in tears when the car wouldn’t go into gear. I reminded her of the esxtended warranty and had her call the local dealership in Hutchinson (where she attends college), and also asked her to call me back with the particulars. She called back, in tears to the point where i could barely understand her. Apparently, the extended service agreement didn’t cover the clutch. I then called Holm’s and talked to the head service technician, Jamie. I asked him to call the dealership in Hutchinson to find out exactly what was wrong. He then returned my call. Jamie approached Tim with the news that the extended warranty didn’t cover clutches. Tim and Jamie hatched a plan to get my daughter back into the car with as little out-of-pocket expense as possible. (knowing college kids are always broke) Tim sent a wrecker to Hutchinson to pick up the car and take it to Abilene so Jamie could do the work on the car himself. The car needed a slave cylinder in the clutch replaced. No problem, replace and bleed the air out of the lines and we’re good to go. Problem. The air won’t bleed out. After trying for several hours, they cut their losses and found a new master cylinder, in Wichita. The master cylinder arrived in Abilene at approximately 3pm and I had the Cobalt in my garage in Salina by 6:30pm that night. My daughter had to use my Traiblazer because she’s not old enough to utilize the rental car agreement laid out by the extended warranty. She picked the Cobalt up the next evening, a very happy girl. She was happy mainly because she had her dream car back, but also happy with the service. I was equally happy ti have her back in her car.
The kicker is, when i asked what the damage to our bank account was going to be…I asked “What do we owe for all the stuff you guys did?”… His reply made my jaw drop… seriously drop. “A handshake”, was his reply. Jamie had found out while working on the car, that it was still undr the manufacturers warranty, and therefore was covered… parts and labor.
Tim threw in the tow from Hutchinson to Abilene, way above and beyond the call.
I have purchased a couple of cars from other places before Holm’s, but never again will I go anywhere else. You can’t beat the sales team , service depatment, or support staff at Holm Automotive, i challenge you to try.
