The one good thing I can say is that they have great prices – I’ve purchased several cars there because they beat any other offers I got. But – it goes downhill from there. Every time I’ve had my VW in for service something ended up broken on it. “it was like that when we found it”. They even glued a part back together that they broke to help me out – yeah… Mistakes happen – but admit them and take responsibility. That’s something they’ve never done.
The last straw was finding out that they billed VW for one of the ‘free’ services that came with my car. The problem is – I did the service myself (because I don’t trust them to do it correctly). The service advisor even admitted that that’s what happened, but they stuck to their story when I reported them to corporate. They even faked an invoice (listed an ‘add-on’ service that was hand written) to try to cover it up.
Now I drive 40 miles to go to Hudson Valley VW when I need warranty / recall work done.
5 stars in every category. These guys are the best. Relaxed low pressure sales environment !
Purchased a new 2013 cx9 Touring. Found all employees to be customer friendly, honest and knowledgeable. Great car, super relaxed atmosphere, honest and fair pricing, can’t ask for more than that!!!
I came into compass motors for service and at first appearance the dealership looked unorganized. I needed a simple service and a couple price quotes. I soon left very angry. I was approached with what was said to be the “owner” and at first he seemed nice. After talking for awhile about my car and its needs he came off very money hungry. He gave me a ridiculous price quote for items I didn’t even need and service that was already done prior. He kept insisting over and over that I needed work to the car and he tried making deal after deal to get the car in. I refused his offerings because he hadn’t a clue in what he was talking about. You can always tell when a person is just giving you the run around and doesn’t have a clue on what hes actually saying in detail. I can tell hes a greedy person and I would absolutely hate to see what his employees think of him and how he treats them and runs his business. Before leaving the dealership I walk to the parts department and spoke with a sales associate who was a young man with a lot of tattoos he was very knowledgeable and honest about Volkswagen’s he told me what I should look for in getting something fixed and what parts are needed for the job and always get a 2nd opinion. After all this I would steer anyone away from getting any service work done there. For years I heard of horror stories about the new owners and how that dealership is ran and now I had my first actually encounter with what seems to be that dealerships problem. I will admit if you need any parts for your VW or any good knowledgeable information you should definitely go to their parts department. Everyone there was a pleasure to deal with and knowledgeable and funny. No pushing for a sale but very accommodating.
Bought an Older car from Compass Motors. Was having multiple trouble with the transmission and the rag top was dry rotted. I brought it to my mechanic who also told me there were other multiple things wrong with the car. They refuse to fix the car and I am now pursuing the matter in small claims. This dealership is very dishonest and I would never recommend purchasing a car from them.
I Purchased a 2008 Dodge Nitro in December as trade in and the vehicle turns out to be a flood vehicle traded in by someone and they do not inspect trade ins evidentally!
They refuse to work with me on remedying this situation. Recevied a quote from an auto adjuster who stated vehicle is considered a total loss!
They are lying theives BUYERS BEWARE!!!
I HAVE NEVER FELT MORE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! Compass Motors sold me a used GLI for over 20K what they forgot to mention was that the car had been wrecked and the only factory paint remaining was on the driverside doors. The paint didnt match and was bubbling everywhere. They wouldnt take the car back the next morning and insisted on doing the body repairs which took longer than they had told me it would but assured me the car would look new. To my dismay the car came back worse with paint still unmatching now with overspray on trim and sunroof. Also tape lines and areas where they buffed the paint completly off. They said if i was still unsatisfied they would take it back at this time but that was a lie they refused. I WAS ROBBED. needless to say very unsatisfied
Compass never stops trying to bilk money out of you. I normally would NEVER bring my car to this dealership for service, but I had a headlight out and needed to bring it in for a recall issue, so I figured they could replace the bulb while it was in for the recall.
When I dropped it off the owner came outside with me to look at the car, so that he could try to sell me additional services. He said I needed to have my tires rotated, I declined. He quoted me $35 to replace the bulb, however, before the service was complete, he called to tell me it might not just be the bulb, it could be another part also, and he recommended replacing both. So basically he suggested replacing the bulb and another part without even checking to see it if there was anything wrong with the other part or if it only needed a bulb. He quoted $175 for the bulb alone. I had previously gotten a quote for $90 on that bulb elsewhere, so that’s quite a mark up!!! I said not to touch the bulb. When I picked up the car there was a note on the receipt with a $463 estimate to REPLACE A BULB! This is obscene!!! The worst part of it is that they guy did it with a big smile on his face. They act like they are your friend while they pick your pocket. (I ended up buying a bulb for $100 and it took 5 mins for my father to install it.)
On another occasion, my father had purchased 4 parts and returned 3 parts the next day. He was charged a 20% restocking fee (which came to $60). They walked to the shelf, took the parts off, then walked back to the shelf and returned the parts… and my father was charged $60 for this service. They should be ashamed, but they are not. Their objective seems to be to take you for all they can.
Stay away from Compass and if you are forced to go there, do NOT let them sell you services/parts that you DO NOT NEED!
For the second time in 3 years I gave Compass Mazda a chance to win my business and they lost it. This time I was all set to pick up a new vehicle from Compass and I called the day before to confirm we were on for the pickup and the registration and insurance were all taken care of – response I received was “Yep, Yep!” – and scheduled the pickup. I got a ride to the dealership, fully expecting to drive my new car away that morning, and 15 minutes before I was supposed to take delivery they brought me into the finance room to tell me that I had not been approved for the 0% financing I was expecting. They advised me the reason I was rejected was due to late mortgage payments – this was due a mistake on the part of the mortgage company and it had already been resolved, but I was aware this might show on the credit report and had given them fair warning of this and had instructed them to advise me if it did appear on the credit report so I could attempt to get a letter from the mortgage company confirming the credit report was in the process of being corrected. They made no such notification to me and instead blind-sided me with the credit rejection and offered me a loan with an 11% interest rate 15 minutes before I expect to drive away with the car! They gave me a line about not being able to discuss finances over the phone, but even if they hold to that they could have easily called and asked me to come in to review paperwork or without mentioning a specific reason so we could discuss the issue at some point before I was there to take delivery!
If you are looking for a Mazda and want to deal with an honest, friendly, helpful dealership I suggest Ramsey Mazda. After the above incident at Compass and another dissatisfying experience at Palisades Mazda, I ended up at Ramsey. Everyone at Ramsey was a pleasure to deal with. I explained the situation with the mortgage, as I had with Compass, and recounted my experience at Compass. Ramsey worked the credit issue without requiring any involvement from me and they successfully got me into the same car for the same price at the 0% interest and they did it all in one day. Ramsey also offered to provide a courtesy ride to the dealership to pick up the vehicle since I now had to pick it up during a workday.
My father recently had a stroke and is mildly disabled. My mother needed a vehicle but did not know how to go about it. I got a good quote online for a 2012 Tiguan and met in person to finalize everything including trade-in. Only thing mom had to do was pick it up since they didn’t have one on the lot.
They brought in one with 995 miles on it. She had to ask 3 times why it had high miles and was only told ‘maybe it’s transport miles’. She didn’t know she could refuse it so she took it home. I knew I should have met her to pick it up…
I questioned the salesman and he said it was very hard to locate and had to come from a long distance away. (she didn’t care what color so how hard could it have been to locate? Every other dealer that I checked had one in stock…)
I googled the VIN and found out it came from NJ (maybe 100 miles away). Their ads were still posted online.
Once I replied to the salesman with that info he stopped communicating with me. The sales manager blew me off with “We take pride in our honesty and do not play any games with our customers” yeah – sure…
I knew their parts and service department was useless. I’ve never gotten the right part on the first attempt (I guess they don’t know a cam from a crank) and it’s hit or miss on service. “the computer says your speakers are working fine”…
This dealer is by far the nastiest I have ever ben to, when I negotiate the price I was lied to. Then when I asked to speak to the owner he actually cursed me and my wife. He treated us like garbage and his name was Ben Wagner.
I made an appointment to look at a used car on Sat. I took time off from work on Mon as planned and they told me they sold the car on Sun. They didn’t have the decency to even call me to let me know the sold the car. Don’t waste your time with these rude people at compass.
I bought a new Jetta at Compass and have no complaints. The process was fast, painless and the free maintenance appointments have been really reliable. The place is clean and the employees treat customers well.
I took my Audi to Compass because in Middletown NY there are no Audi dealers or great places to go to who know how to work on these cars. To my surprise Compass Motors service department was great. Chris Hackett was Fabulous and went to great lengths to fix a problem that no one else had been able to rectify. Audi’s are very temperamental and mine was a nightmare. I had been to many high end euro specialists and still had problems with the car. Thanks CHRIS!
car has been back 3 times for a check engine light in 250 miles and each time it needs more parts and labor ….when does it end? they need some qualified techs
Now known as compass motors……I went there looking for a pre owned car i was shown a 2006 volkswagon gli, i was LIED TO many times first they told me it was never in a collision because who would want to spend 19,900. on a vehical with mis matching paint repainted poorly wrong color hood roof trunk pass fender pass doors extensive body work visable to at least rear door an quater panel and of course both bumpers as well. i was sold this car immediatly noticed the first time i saw it in day light the next morning tried returning car they screwed me again!!!! the wouldnt refund i battled with them for over a month getting body estimated to fix the car to look original at 13.000 proposturouse to spend that on a car that i just paid 20K for no special deal to make it worth driving such a wreck…..After many turnovers in management a month later i was pressured into “temporarily” trade in my GLI for a 2008 left over mazda 6I in which i took home and didnt drive. I was promised that this car would end up with a higher value by buying it that they would make a mmazda incentive and in turn they were going to activly seek a simalar car i waited 5 month and finally got a call that something had came in as i attempted to off the POS mazda dealers offered me 11,500 with one hundred miles still brand new i was stuck waiting for them. This deal i supposivly couldnt refuse was the same modle vehicle less equiped and a year older i was tring to be reasonable and would have taken that car but i wanted the value differance of $3.000. back in cash but they insisted that they never made a deal to get me in anothe car at no cost and asked me for an additional 5k all in all an repetitivly ran my credit. also ADDED STUFF TO MY CONTRACT I DIDNT ASK FOR $1200. worth of worthless tire warantees and some $600. wax that was never applied. They also gave me a hard time and would not refund me for quite some time.
Excellent service, friendly and efficient. No problems with my lease and we love the new Mazda 3 Sport.
Great service! friendly people
love getting my mazda service done at this location.
