My husband and I decided to begin researching the 2011 Hyundai Sonata and the Santa Fe. We never buy a car on the day we look. We need to consider the specs, financing options, down payments, any new features that may not have had time to be tested in the market, the possibility of buying preowned, etc. We went to Atlantic Automall Hyundai in West Islip. We were completely honest with the salesperson telling him that we were not ready to buy today and that we wanted the bottom line costs on the vehicles we planned on purchasing later in 2011 (Feb or March). They took our licenses and ALL our information (which made me feel uncomfortable) and allowed us to test drove both the Sonata and the Santa Fe. Afterwards, the salesperson sat us down and we thought he was going to give us some bottom line figures.
He asked us to, “wait a moment”. When he came back, he brought a very rude and obnoxious manager named “John”. John sat down and said, “Let’s deal”. I said, “Let’s not”. My husband picked up our papers and said we needed to leave. I told John that we were dealing with the salesman, not him and that we had explained we were not ready to purchase now. We also told John that both the Hyundai and the Santa Fe hesitated when we drove slowly and we wanted to check that out first. John slammed our papers on the table and said, “$20,000.00” take it or leave it. We said, “No”. No one was going to brow beat us into purchasing a vehicle. John got up and in a loud voice told the salesman we had been dealing with that we were not ready to buy–stop wasting his time with us and move on to someone else!! Then, he dismissed us.
We were treated with disrespect and will not go back to this dealership to purchase a car (or two). The salesperson called us the next day to find out if we had checked out the hesitation noise. Did he really think we would go back? I feel badly for the people who need to work under this man’s supervision, and I am sorry this salesperson lost two possible sales because of his nasty sales manager’s behavior!
