“Certified Pre-owned Autos?”
Kind salesman successfully avoided giving me a car “service history report” for the vehicle I purchased. “Computer is down; I don’t have the password,” etc. Bad sign. Transmission failed on the highway on day 4. Service mgr tried not to fix it, but an out-of-state dealership where the car was towed to, went to bat for me. Had I not negotiated for 30-day warranty in exchange for my signature on an arbitration clause (the “I won’t sue you” agreement), I would be SOL right now! Demand one for the pre-owned. You’ll need it. Finance inflate the available interest rates no matter how high your FICO score. Called my personal banker and caught them in a lie. Finance prepares the paperwork with the amounts THEY want, instead of what you negotiated for. Watch that. Finance dept. charges customers an extra $25. on plates and registration as an “electronic processing fee”, aka “govt. fee” which is NOT required or charged to them by the DMV. They lied about that too, I checked. Don’t pay it. If the vehicle becomes problematic, the service manager will always be MIA. Even if you call ahead and show up 5 minutes later. After 3 weeks, I am still waiting for a promised reimbursement. Bring a mechanic, a lawyer and a financial advisor with you and you’ll do just fine.
