WARNING HOPKINS FORD DECEPTIVE PRACTICES AND CASH FLOW ISSUES
We leased a Ford Escape. The lease price with Ford red carpet was very favorable. The problem was with out trad-in. We actually put done on a checklist that our car had sutained at one time some bumber damage in a fender bender. This information was used against us to determine trade-in value. No it would be normal procedure for the dealer to run a CarFAx anyhow to determine if there is a clear title as far as salvage, etc.
Our salesman told us that the car had diminshed value and since a CarFAx is usually need even at auction, Hopkins could not sell this car at full price either wholesale or retail.
After getting this information, we decided to go ahead as Hokins would go no higher and another Ford dealer also told us we had a “bad” CarFAx and the car had diminshed value.
The deal was done last Saturday. On Wednesday we noticed our car for sale, 2007 Honda Civic for around $14,000, which showed a clean CarFax, even still the car was worth $141 more than retail according to CarFax.
Since we did not get paid yet for our trade-in, we asked if maybe we could have the car back. Bob the Sales Manager said no way, besides, they just put $2,000 into the car, bumper, brakes and tires. Well, that’s strange, the all the brakes were just replaced less than 2 months ago at the Honda dealer. As for the 4 mismatched tires, huh? He said our check was mailed Tuesday eventhough we said we would pick it up.
Friday, still no check!!!! Tough economy I guess. So we were mislead at the purchase and told a bunch of stories after that.
Who needs this hastle, go someplace where they at least negotiate fairly and not deceive.
My next stop is Ford at the corporate level and the attorney general of PA. I think people in general need to be alerted to be prepared with CarFaxes in hand because these guys are just trying to steal your trade-in from you with the latest tool, CarFax. It is my intent to get the word out through social media, etc.
Signed,
Deceived in Jenkintown
