THIS DEALERSHIP IS EXTREMELY DISHONEST. I had a good offer from another dealership on the car I wanted. Van Chevrolet promised me a better deal. We agreed to that better deal over the phone and then later in person, and they repeatedly confirmed the terms. Then they spent weeks giving me the run around and wasting my time and trying to get more money out of me before finally telling me that they wouldn’t honor the deal they had made with me. STAY AWAY FROM THESE LIARS.
OMG! They can go to any level to sell the car. I felt they were sneaky with their prices. I was there negotiating for 4 hours and finally they agreed to my price. But when i did calculations on my ipad it was way off. I said cancel the deal and the sales person gets pissed off and makes comment like “have a good day never come back again” laughs and says i was just joking. If you don’t buy the car they are pissed off at you. It was a learning lesson for me. Never buying car from them for sure. They just lost potential customer.
This dealership is a joke. Pretending that they have high reputation in market “CHEATING” is their job. Once you buy the car if you come back with any issues they keep their hands up and bring the contract in front of you and say, “here you signed it, we cannot do anything.” We were treated badly, when we raised concerns they threatened us to throw us out of their office and call the cops. I was promised a car on certain price and when paperwork was done everything changed from the amount of the car to loan. After the contract was signed just like everyone else it struck me what they had manipulated and when i asked questions they refuse to answer any of my questions. Gave me run around and sent me to different people who had nothing to do with finance or sales. Threatened me if i don’t leave their office they will call the cops on me. Here i am talking about a customer spend so much money on a car and being treated like “SHIT”. They have huge game plans and make sure that they can cheat their customers any way they can. Make sure if you are signing a contract with this dealership you read your papers twice because it only takes them one second to change their price and sell you a car which is worth only $10k for 20K. They will be nice and sweet when you making a deal but once done buying a car they will treat you like “SHIT.” It’s not one but entire staff is ridiculous. Don’t trust any word they say, it’s all manipulation and cheating.
My company takes customer service very seriously and it is what we base our business on. It is obvious that your company does as well. David Elenbaas was awesome to deal with and you can rest assured that you will be getting all of our future business.
DeAnn Potendyke was awesome to work with. She is very knowledgeable about your product and walked me through the process with ease. She was a joy to work with. Mark (finance) was very helpful also. He explained all the paperwork and made me feel at ease with this purchase. All in all, a great experience.
Staff at this dealership are outstanding, James and Kennedy went above and beyond, staying well after closing hours to process our vehicle purchase. Great Team!
Once they get your phone number they continue to call you and harrass you with sales pitches that they make their reps call. They will never take your info out of their data base when requested.
My negative experience started after I bought a used Chevy from them. Their inspection, highly praised by the sales guy, must have been done with blindfolds as the car had tons of problems (2 years old).
They claimed that the deductible on their aftermarket warranty is waived if I bring the car into their shop. Naturally this wasn’t true.
There was noise from the front end I paid for and 3 months later it came up again. Car is currently at Thorobred Chevrolet (I can highly recommend!) and they have to replace the exact same parts Van installed as they screwed up the installation.
My recommendation: avoid this place! Even if your car fails next door have it towed somewhere else.
So we just “bought” a new 2012 Chevy Cruze. After Driving it and being hassled as normal car salesmen do, I knew i was in a bind as my credit was less than perfect. They advised me they could “finance anyone” they worked with so many lenders! After a few back and forths I agreed on a price with my $1000 down payment. We Signed the papers and left very pleased with my new car and payment! THEN HELL STRUCK! After 22days of owning the car and driving it around I noticed that my temp tag was about to expire, I called the dealership to “CHECK” on the tags. I was transferred to Kathleen the new car tags and title lady. Half way though mine and Kathleens convo she places me on hold and Cody picks up. He claims to be the new car finance manager. He begins to tell me that he was unable to obtain financing and that i would have to get a co-signer or bring the car back A.S.A.P.. I was devastated, I am originally from NC and the dealerships there would never let you leave the lot without a 100% approval. 22days?!! You never called nor did you send me an email or letter via mail!? Cody stated he tried to call and left me a message. when I asked what number, he rattled off some number i had no clue. I advised him that that wasn’t my number. He claimed thats what they had on file for me. I advised him that no it isn’t as both my salesman and the guy who did my papers had both called me at MY number to “make sure i was happy” and let me know about there exceptional service plans and department. it seems they do not communicate with each other as kathleen prior to Cody had just told me ” oh yeah i did your title and tags” and even told me that Ally finiancal was the finance company. half way though that convo was when she said ” let me place you on hold for a second” then Cody appeared on the line with his no financing story! I am scheduled to meet with Cody on monday Nov. 14 to return the car. I am so depressed an angry at the same time. I Warn anyone who goes here if they say one thing expect the opposite! But my true suggestion is to avoid this dealership all together as they will trick you give you false hope.

this dealership is a complete joke. They care nothing about selling a car and taking care of the buyer. I have bought from many dealerships in the valley, this is the worst experience ever. This might be a little confusing, but take it for what its worth. So i first walked in, thinking i owed about 22K on my bmw, we contacted the bank and it was 25K, so the salesperson knew i owed 25K and it was written on the scribble papers. The 2 sales guys said they would sell the car with a full 100K mile warranty for 36900, which i was ok with. Deal should be that easy right? WRONG. When it came time to the paperwork, it was 36900 plus 4000 for the warranty, they kept telling me that i could return or quit the warranty and get the money back, in turn saving me money, but they knew i wasnt buying the car without a warranty, They kept saying this over and over…i said that is not correct. I was p’d off by this time and almost left, but wanted this corvette. He reduced the car to 35800 and made the warranty like 3500 and for some reason i was still ok with it… so papers signed.. i was supposed to be getting the full new license plate registration with the car, and refunding my most of a year from my bmw, which was about 600 bucks back in my pocket. Instead they only upgraded my current registration, saving THEM more money and not telling me. Then the next day i notice they only put 22K for my payoff, in turn costing me another 3K out of my pocket from the total financed.. I go back there and about get in a fight with the general sales manager, he says he will try and fix it. What he does is this… He reduces the warranty down to about 1400 which in turn got me 2500 back in my pocket, but if and when i do sell the car, that extra money from the warranty for cancelling it is gone, he didnt reduce the car to make up the difference, he just cut my warranty, and he raised my amount financed up 500 to try and get me more cash… Just retarded.. They he cut the tire warranty out of the sale which i noticed when i was signing and didnt even tell me about it, which i found and he says “oh, didnt think you wanted it”.. So this was their scam to make up the extra money that they screwed up in the original sale. And now my check for me to pick up is there, but it is still 3K short from the original 22K compared to 25K. And they cant seem to figure it out… They try and make you happy by “hiding” numbers and make you think your getting a good deal. They are complete scam artists and i recommend nobody going there. tyler was my sales guy, he is the one that posts the ads on craigslist, smiley was kind of the lead sales guy but is a complete idiot, and matt is the general sales manager and is a complete scam artist. I really wish there was a way to contact a HEAD manager of the place, but they really dont care at all.. Typical AZ B.S. and reject people. HOPE THIS HELPS! im sure i forgot a few items, but this is a general idea. i would love for a head person of Van chevrolet to read this and call me! 319-431-6363
Don’t say you weren’t warned! I had read the reviews and decided to give the benefit of the doubt. I am regretting that! This entire facility has been trained to double-talk and yes you until the deal is done. They will tell you whatever it is they think you want to hear. They will tell you that they will fix, clean, repair, replace, extend, etc, whatever you want, and then they won’t. Aside from their countless empty promises and their empty guarantees, I paid for more than half my Tahoe upfront, they said they would take care of acquiring my out of state title. When they were unable to, they didn’t communicate that to me in a timely fashion. Once I knew, I applied for a copy within 24 hours, but, of course, there is a wait time. Smiley made me program his “personal” number into my phone, repeatedly telling me to only answer his phone calls, that he would take care of everything, blah…blah…blah. Eight, yes 8, day later, not a single phone call from Smiley’s “personal” number, I walk out my door in the morning to take my daughter to school and my car has been stolen!! Call the police, they tell me my car has been repo-ed. WHAT??? My car is a month old, no papers have been delivered to me, I haven’t heard from Smiley’s “personal” number that there has been a problem, they just cashed my check for $15,000 14 days ago, my car can’t be repo-ed. But it was. I could go on, this was just the final straw, but it would just waste time and space on a company that quite frankly doesn’t deserve to stay in business when there are so many people and businesses who perform at a much more admirable level. Stay away from Smiley, the used car manager, the twin brothers Daniel and not Daniel, the tall doofy looking guy needs to be kicked in the groin. Yes, there may be some good deals, my Tahoe was decent enough, but what you pay in the long run is far more costly. I just wasted a month of my time and am now right back where I started with the extra bill of having a rental car. This is by far one of the worst business transactions I have ever been a part of in my nearly 40 years. I have never been treated so horribly. If you do go there, the only guy who was worth your breath was the new Tony. Tony C, I think. Nice guy, his wife has a Tahoe LTZ, he was the only one on the lot who had any kind of true knowledge of the product they were selling. Pathetic statement for the dealership, admirable for him.
Their sticker prices are WAY over valued. Kelly Blue Book values are meant to be negotiated and also include tax, title, commission and other costs, it even says so on their website that their KBB value is meant to be a “starting point,” not the real price.
Van Chevrolet sucks. Stay away if you can.
If you go there, I wish you the best of luck.
🙁
So it’s 4 days after my original review. The ONLY person who has been able to do anything is Trena McEniry. She is Chuck Mullins right hand, he is the General Manager of the used car division from my understanding.
It takes a woman to correct what only men can screw up so horribly. Amazingly enough, there isn’t a single female used car salesperson on the lot. I’m not sure about the new car side.
At any rate, as soon as I got Trena on the phone and explained what had happened over the 5 weeks from purchase to repo, she took charge. She was empathetic, understanding, and quick to address the many issues involved with my purchase. The woman moved mountains. I’d throw the lot right out the window if it weren’t for this gem. As far as I can tell, she’s about the only redeeming quality that they have going for them.
I haven’t gotten my Tahoe back, but she made arrangements to clean, repair, replace all that failed to be addressed by Smiley and his yes-men cohorts. She reduced the price as incentive to keep my money with them. She has been straightforward and to the point. She is also reimbursing my costs for the rental car, the money I had to pay to car-jail to get my personal belongings back, and the money I had to pay to get my out of state title. It figures that of all the men stumbling and bumbling around that place, it would take a mother of 4 to fix what they so badly screwed up and then finish the deal. Whatever they are paying her, it isn’t enough.
On a side note, this review has nothing to do with the service department. Given that Trena is married to the service manager, Shawn, I would imagine that he’s probably a damn good egg as well.
I’ll be getting my completely cleaned and repaired Tahoe back on Monday. Along with that I’ll be getting cash back from Trena dropping the price, plus she is repaying my costs for the week of rental car, and other expenses previously mentioned. That woman deserves a raise!
Well, after having my oil changed, someone there decided to keep all of my CDs…so be warned if you use this dealership, take everything out of your car before you let it leave your sight.
When I walked into the dealership I was greeted by your usual group of sales sharks. I told the one who got to me first what I was looking for , a Jeep. Instead of listening to me they promptly said “we have what you want and took me to the back side of the lot where i was shown every kind of truck with no jeep in sight. When I expressed that none of that is what I want. They said they have a jeep in a lot down the street. So I said OK lets go see it. They had some brain dead associate drive me dowb there. On the car ride she said they told her to take me down there to “look around the lot at trucks. There was absolutly no consideration for what I wanted. I actually did find a jeep that I liked after about 90 minutes of wasting my time. When I got back to the dealer I was greeted with the old ” boy do we have a deal for you” which was not a very good deal. So I said thank You I plan to look around. The salsman was pissed, like I was wasting his time. He gave me the old ” what can we do to get you in a car today. I said ” nothing”. Noticeably upset he got up and walked away. He came back after collecting his composure and said “why”. I explained that a car purchase is a big decision and I dont make big decisions on the fly. He was persistant on the ” what can I do to get you in a car today ” bull. In order to shut him up , I told him to give me 10k for my rade that was worth about 4k. Again he was pissed and got up and walked away. He returned once more and said there is no way he could do that and that I was asking for the impossible. I reiterated that I don’t make big decisions on the fly and he was going to have to offer me a ridiculous deal in order to “sell me a car today. He about threw the paperwork at me and walked away again. Absolutly no respect for me and the way I shop for a car. OH BY THE WAY. I did by a Jeep that day from Bell Honda. They were courteous , showed me only what I was looking for and offered me that too good to be true deal. Love my new Jeep, Love Bell Honda and I will never step foot on the Van Chevrolet lot again. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLE
