Wow, just drove home in my 2007 Highlander. Two days ago I was just looking at it, flat out told them they probably couldn’t help me with financing, but they made it happen! I had a ZERO credit score with a repo on it, due to losing a job back in 2007 when the place I worked for went under. Now I am back on my feet, and I could have bought a cheaper car with cash but wanted a long term reliable vehicle with a chance to finance it so I can rebuild my credit. I did a lot of research, narrowed my search to a Honda or a Toyota due to their reliability and how they hold their value. I spent six weeks looking around, had a few turn downs on credit, a few shady dealers who tried to screw me around, and I was out of patience. I should mention I have a vehicle that runs fine, just wanted an AWD with working AC! So this was not a “have to” purchase for me.
The Highlander was a little over what I initially wanted to pay, but it is also a great vehicle with all the extras. The interest rate is higher than I would like but I knew it would be, a by product of my credit situation which I have to deal with. I would highly recommend giving them a shot, even if you think you are stuck with buy-here pay-here as your only option. Their finanace person is great, was aggressive and made it happen! Everyone I dealt with was wonderful and full of personality and humor. Normally I just HATE car shopping. HATE it. But they were real with me and honest, I will be going back there for my regular service. So do your homework, have some down payment cash (I had $3k) and be willing to try, because you never know. I was frustrated, you end up feeling like a loser – but in this economy there are lots of people like me, and it feels good to know I still have options! Oh, and I am a woman & they didn’t treat me like an idiot, so ladies don’t worry, you won’t have to drag a man with you to get treated right!
We just had our non-Toyota vehicle emission tested and when the van was returned to my wife it smelled of cigarette smoke so badly she needed to drive home with the windows open. It’s amazing in this day and age that they allow smoking in this facility. Our car was in their possession less then an hour. After speaking to a sales representative, he claimed the staff smokes outdoors. It is IMPOSSIBLE that our van smelled of smoke from employees only smoking outside. I would not buy a car from them for fear of having it smell of smoke after being serviced.
Thanks for the heads up. I have my Rav4 serviced there, have not experienced your problem though if I did it would definitely be the last time. I haven’t had any problems with service. I would have bought the Rav4 there but the salesman I dealt with was rather dishonest. I wasn’t in immediate need of a vehichle but I knew I wanted a Rav4 and what color I wanted. I NEVER got a call back and low and behold about 6 weeks later I found the EXACT Rav4 I was looking for in Middletown. GREAT Salesperson, a little far for service when there is a dealer in town.
Even though the car was listed as “certified” the salesman said that was “certifiable” and that getting it “Certified” through Toyota would be extra. After talking to other dealers I found that most others did not charge extra. If its advertized as Certified then its already included. Plus I found that similar cars (year model mileage) were much less at other dealers.
My wife and I bought a used Rav 4 from Colchester Toyota back in March. We had purchased a used 4runner about 4 years earlier with no problems. I brought the Rav to get the oil changed at another place and the guy told me the transmission needed to be flushed and the tires needed to be replaced. We bought the car in late March and brought it in for service in late June. The tires were worn down to the wear bars located on the tire. Call it my naivety or just my trust in a familiar dealership, but I expected the car to be put through the Toyota 160 point inspection ( which it clearly was not). I brought the car into Toyota to hopefully have the problem resolved, but the sales manager told me “there was no way they were going to replace” the severely worn tires. Needless to say I am extremly disappointed with the lack of professionalism of a dealership we once believed would never steer us wrong, and would certainly not put my family in danger by selling us a used car with “bald” tires. I will never do business with Colchester Toyota again, and I would strongly advise anyone considering buing a used car from them to make sure they get in writing a copy of the 160 point inspection. Also, be more thorough than I was. Like I said, I mistakenly trusted the dealearship with the motto “its like having a dealer in the family”.
After about an hour of negotiation on my RAV4, the salesman and I agreed on a deal in which the dealer would “throw in” a 100,000 mile warranty free of charge. This was the clincher, and we shook hands on the deal. I was escorted to the finance manager’s office, sat down and signed the contract. Before leaving, I noticed that the free warranty wasn’t listed on the contract. The salesman told me it was a “Side deal” and it couldn’t be listed on the sales contract. I discovered later that the the dealer had no intention of honoring the 100K warranty, and the sales manager basically told me tough luck…were not honoring the warranty. DO NOT TRUST THIS DEALERSHIP.
