I have been shopping for a Hyundai for quite a while. My wife owned an XG350 some years ago and had good service from it, but that was a while ago, we thought we would go back to Hyundai for our next car since the reviews were so good. This is an up and coming brand for sure.
Well, we were surprised really how good these cars are. We contacted a couple of dealerships but Pohanka’s offer seemed best so we went there. The staff was very accommodating, it was a nice experience, we drove off in our new Sonata that very day. I am very satisfied with the entire experience. I thought it would be a lot harder than it was, but Pohanka made it easy.
mr. kevin oliver is a great sales person. because of his professionalism, and tenacity, iam bringing several family members and friends to see him.

It was recommended from my god brother that I call the Sales Manager direct. I recently purchased a 2010 Dodge Charger from this dealership on September 30, 2011 and was pleased wtih my purchase. I was told that the car had just got there 3 days ago from a rental company, I drove the car and let them know that it probably needed braks. I didnt have any problems with my salesman or the Used Car Sales Manager. They fixed the braks and everything was fine. November 30, 2011 the engine light came on and I called Darcars Chrysler Jeep Dodge to schedule an appointment to get my car looked at. I took my car in on December 5 and to my suprise the head cyclinders, water pump, and timing belt needed to be replaced!!! This car only has 38000 miles on it so why on earth would it need all of this major work done to it already. I called the Used Car Sales Manager on several occasions to make him aware of what was going on and asked him what could be dont about this because I havent had my car for 90 days (only 1 carnote in) and he couldnt believe it, he told me that this was the second car that was sold with this kind of problems. Of course that didnt make me feel any better, however, he pursued to call the rental car company that sold him the car to let them know that car they had purchased was already in the shop. He offered to have the car towed to a repair shop, but the car was already at Darcars. He told me that he was going to make some phone calls and get back with me. 2 days went by and I hadnt heard from him. I called him to see if he had made any headway with who ever he needed to contact. I let him know that I was without my car and couldnt afford to rent a car, plus I was waiting on my extended warranty company to call back with the authorization for my rental. It been almost a month (2 carnotes in) and still dont have my car. I’ve called the Used Car Manager to let him know that they sold me a dressed up lemon and to also let him know how upset I was about this entire situation. Of couse the carfax report does not unvail these types of things but there should have been more resolutions offered, such as them paying for a rental for this inconvenience, offering a loaner car from their dealership, paying one out of the 2 carnotes, offering my another car-I mean its not even 90 days and I’m having all kinds of problems out of this car, HELL-SOMETHING!! I know was as adults have to take some responsibility for our decisions, but my goodness, this here is ridiculous!! I even told them that my extended warranty company will only pay for 15 days of the rental so however many days after the 15 days, I am responsible for, Pohanka should pay this bill and NOT ME!! I am in the process of writing the Corporate Office, the Owner of Pohanka, and anyone else who of importance. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS!!!
This dealership did right by us. My husband and I needed a car in a hurry since ours died and I had to go out of tow for a few days (I’m in the National Guard). So I did some research and found some reasonably priced pre-owned cars on Pohanka’s website. I went to the dearlership and was promptly greeted by Nate Harris. I mentioned the cars I had seen online but was told they had been sold a few days earlier. At first, I had a bad impression because I figured those cars should have been removed from the listings if they were gone. It looked like a bait and switch tactic to me. Anyhow, Nate showed me (without really pressuring me like some salesmen do) what they did have and I ended up choosing a 2006 Sonata that had just been traded in. I figured the price negotiation would have been a lot worse but it was a really pleasant and smooth deal. Mr. Harris seemed very willing to work with me to get me a good price. The only issue was that the car hadn’t been detailed yet. He made me aware that it needed some light work done to it first (brakes and a scuff, little stuff) so I told him if he could have it ready by the next evening I’d take it. So he agreed to have it pushed to the top of the work list. Well the next day he informed me that the service team had discovered an issue with the axel that needed to be taken care of so it wouldn’t be ready in time. So since they weren’t able to fulfill the promise of having it ready on time, Nate drove me to the Enterprise up the street on got me a rental car on Pohanka’s dime. That really meant a lot to us. We would rather them take the time to make sure the car was safe than to rush through it without being thorough. And I understand that stuff happens and you can’t always keep promises, but they made sure I would be able to get to my Guard unit for the weekend, and they didn’t have to do that for us. When I got back into town I received a call from Nate letting me know the car was ready. We picked it up and after driving it home I could tell they did a great job making the car run well. It drove smoother than many of the newer cars I’ve driven. So in conclusion, I feel that Pohanka did more than they had to. They went above and beyond, so yes, I would buy here again, and I would recommend this dealership to everyone.
My salesman, Nate Harris was very honest and professional from the first day. He was very cordial, friendly and extremely informative. He worked for me by making sure that I got my best deal for my new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I have recommended Pohanka Hyundai to all my friends and family. All of the employees that I came in contact with were excellent, so I will continue to do business with Pohanka Hyundai.

I called up this dealership to ask a few questions about a car I was interested in. After pressing “1” for the “Sales Department” (as prompted by an automated voice) I was directed to the front desk, not sales. The lady quickly quickly asked “where should I direct your call” without as much as a “hello” and didn’t tell me I would be on hold. I was on hold for a good 30 seconds before the phone started ringing again. After another minute of ringing the front desk lady picked up and again said “where should I direct your call”. After being directed to sales again, I was put on hold. Finally Jane answered the phone.
I told Jane I had a few questions and she immediately asked for my name, number, address, etc. I told her I would like my questions asked before I gave contact information beyond my name. She hastily answered a few questions. When I asked her wether the 2008 car was still under manufacturer warranty she treated me like I didn’t know what I was talking about and said “it shouldn’t affect your decision because most used cars aren’t going to have manufacturer warranty”. After I pressed her for an answer she said she would call me back in 5 minutes after she found out the mileage and year of the car. I had already told her the mileage and the year but she hung up anyway. 5 minutes later she calls me back and tells me it is under a 5 year 50k mile warranty. I then ask her about any money-back garuntee (some places have 5-day garuntees), she again said “that shouldn’t affect your decision”. Sketchy. After my questions were loosely answered and made to seem like they didn’t matter or make sense, she pressured me into giving her the rest of my contact information and a time when I would be coming in to “purchase the car” (I gave no verbal agreement to any of the former assumptions). When I told her the earliest I could be there was 8:30 she tried to pressure me (again) into coming earlier because they close at 9. I told her it was litterally the earliest I could get there and she kept trying to pressure me to come early.
I’ve never had a salesperson try to hard sell me over the phone or question my needs! Terrible!
I found the people at Pohanka Hyundai to be very professional and courteous. My buying experiencing was good because I did not have people pressuring me on a decision.
During my life time, I have purchased several vehicles and by far this purchase at Pohanka Hyundai was the most pleasant and professional. There was no “hard sales pitch” or pressure to buy.
Prior to going to Pohanka Hyundai, at Marlow Heights, MD, I conducted an internet search to locate the vehicle of my choice and to get pricing.
At the time of my search, Pohanka Hyunda was the only dealership in the area to have in stock the 2010 Vera Cruz Limited edition. I visited the dealership and was immediately greeted by Jane Muhyee. Ms. Muhyee showed the vehicle and I took it out for a test drive. Ms. Muhyee was very professional and knowledgable about the features of the vehicle. If I had any questions she did not know, she did not delay in getting the answer from her sales manager.
Pleased with the ride of the vehicle, I decided to inquire about financing options. I met Kip Douglass, the sales manager who quickly showed his wealth of knowledge about the auto industry and varying finance options. Mr. Douglass brought in Joann Nolta to work on the financing, and with dilegence and persistence Kip and Joann offered a finance package that met my budget.
My overall experience with this sales team and finance department was outstanding. I will recommend this dealership to friends and family without hesitation. I was extremely impressed by the sales team at Pohanka Hyundai that worked so hard to give quality service to its customers.

I truly enjoyed the car buying experience with Nate Harris and the entire staff at Pohanka Hyundai Marlow Heights. I will also send my friends in to purchase vehicles.
The haggle free internet pricing made for a smooth transaction from start to finish.:)
The broken hearted customer that sent a review earlier would like to thank God for fixing things. Pohanka tried to give me the run around when I visited again,:( but everything worked out. The damage is getting repaired. I guess Pohanka makes customers first after all.:) So far, So good. Thanks Mike/ sales manager. Keep praying for me everyone.
Dishonest is the nicest way to describe this dealership. I purchase a used car from Pohanka. Carfax said it was a rental car purchased by Pohanka 3 days before I purchase. I took my car to chevy who made the car they found a crack evap canister and the battery they wanted me to pay 700.00 mind you my car is not even 1 month old from purchase date. So Pohanka got my car from chevy took it to Pohanka’s service to have it fix. Did I get it fix? No! I got the run around , I was told to put it on an Insurance claim (when I didn’t cause the problem.) The Sales Manager assured me that the problem will be fix. Its been almost a week, The Sales Manager does not return phone calls like promised . My newly purchased car is sitting at Pohanka. Did they fix it? NO! NO!NO! and I’m still waiting patiently
I thought customers came first? NO!NO!NO!

Heartbroken customer
Very bad dealership. Nate Harris is very dishonest and they will not honor anything even written in the email. Never try this shop!
You should be concerned about slander on the internet. I have purchased many vehicles and because I did not get the deal that I wanted was never a valid reason to call a person dishonest. Maybe you were a little dishonest yourself so you find it easy to label a person. You offer zero validated evidence but you claim YOU are honest.
Take down the post.:(
First off, let me say that this has been the WORST, I repeat WORST car buying experience that I have ever had! This was my first new car purchase ever, and I have owned almost 10 vehicles, and have never had such shotty service or reliability in my life. 😡
What drew me to this dealership was that my mom bought a 2007 Accord (DEMO) in Sep. 07 from the affiliated Honda across the street from Hyundai. She got an excellent deal on her car, and to this day has had NO problems with her car, aside from general maintenance. So, naturally I put in a request to look at a 2009 Hyundai Sonata at the close of the 09 year, expecting to get an excellent deal. Pohanka was the first dealer that called m e in regards to the online request. The salesman, NH, told me to come on in to look at their inventory. I explained to him the situation that I was having with trading my 2006 Explorer for more cost efficiency. He assured me that if I gave them a try, I would have a memorable experience. Let me say that it has truly been MEMORABLE, and not for good reason. 😡
I work in DC and I live in Waldorf, so I told him that it takes a long time for me to travel, and that my time is money and valuable. Well, I arrived to their dealership around 7pm and was greeted by the salesman I spoke with on the phone. We go inside and start the process. Well to begin, much to my discomfort I was told that there were NO 2009 Sonata’s in their inventory, mind you this is after I talked to him around 5 and was told there were plenty. WTF!! Stupidly I stayed and listened on to what he was talking about….BIG MISTAKE. He kept telling me (and Mom) of how imperative it was to trade out the gas-guzzling, value-depleting Explorer and into one of the Hyundai’s. So, there was this incentive offered only to 2009 Hyundai’s, minus the Genesis (figures right), and that the only 2009 he had on his lot was a DEMO 2009 Hyundai Azera Limited. This car had 6000 miles on it, mind you my mom’s demo 2 yrs earlier from Honda had 1200, so I was a little skeptical. But I figured what the hell?? Test drove the car and loved it. We worked the numbers and the Sales Manager, KD, was offering little to no room for negotiation, in spite of the high miles and tarnished Hyundai depreciation. In the past I always bought “nused” top-of-the-line vehicles, so I figured 6000 miles isn’t that bad, plus I was getting the full 10 year/100k warranty, which would have changed to 5 year/60k had the car been deemed used. This in my opinion, given the situation now, IS.
The purchase took place 12/30/2009 and the car was delivered to my house 12/31/2009. A new car, for the New Year! Or, so I thought. Not even a week later (3 days actually), the vehicle was brought back to the service shop to have an AIRBAG sensor reset. No biggie right? WRONG! They fixed it, (yeah rite) and again that Friday the car was rite back in the shop. Not to mention that the day of the first incident I was at the service shop all morning and they had the nerve to call me back to the dealership that evening to put more money down on the car, like WTF, I was just there!! Now bringing the total down payment to over 5k! So Friday, I was a little concerned with the swift return to the service dept., so I asked for a print out of the vehicle history, and sadly a new car had one! 1 page at first, but the printer had jammed, once fixed, 6 more come out!!! OMG! One record which is actually for the same problem that I’m experiencing, which arose 4 months before I walked onto their lot! 😮
So, I didn’t look rite away because I was already running late for work. So when I got to work I was looking thru the pages and come to find out the car has had 2 steering column replacements, a new tire, and no oil change with 6k miles! And come to find out, the person that was “DEMO-ing” the car was their loan officer, VS, who did all my paperwork and had me come back for more money, yet failed to mention any of the problems that he himself was well aware of. Are they kidding me! Then the Sales Manager has the nerve to tell me that the sales dept. doesn’t liaise with the service dept on vehicle histories, and even told me that I should/could have asked for the history prior to purchase. Excuse ME!! Who in TF asks for a CARFAX on a NEW VEHICLE? Whether it’s a Demo or Not. Food for thought: MAYBE YOU SHOULD. At that point I was more than pissed. And the Friday date for the 2nd return was 01/11/2010. Please note that this review is being written on 01/28/2010, and the car has been in the shop ever since the 11th. They claim that the part it needs is in Korea and they don’t even have an ETA for it to the US. Shall I mention that my car note is due in 2 weeks? Then they keep giving me loaner cars (number 3 now), that are nowhere near comparable to my purchase. The most recent loaner is a 2008 Azera that reeks of piss (I think), and wobbles, and has 47k on it. This is after they had given a 2010 base Azera, and I just so happened to call in and ask the status of my car and was given the “usual” we don’t have an ETA yet. The Sales Manager then goes onto say don’t worry you have ours and we have yours, and don’t worry about the miles. Well, I just wanted to throw out there that the car has almost 4oo miiles on it and he says oh, ok. Not even an hour later I get a phone call from Pohanka saying that they have sold the 2010 Azera to somone and need it back. Are you serious? More than ironic rite? Meanwhile, the car that I own and will be paying for, sits in the shop until God knows when. I didn’t even call them about the deficiencies of the 08 Azera b/c at this point I have realized that they are shady Money-hungry SOB’s that could give a **** about their customers. Talking about we can’t do anything b/c by law my car is considered un-drivable. Oh, really? But VS was driving it all over the planet, but now that I purchased it, it’s unsafe? Better believe that I have contacted Hyundai Motor Company and the owner of Pohanka (got his assistant) and made them aware of this unjust treatment, and if I need to go any higher then dammit I will! I cannot stress enough that you REALLY THINK IT THRU B4 YOU BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE PLEASE! This has been and continues to be a nightmare.:devil(

I actullay menat to give them 1 star, b/c 0 is not an option. Forgot to cahnge the options.
Sounds like you may have expected the dealer to not ask you to purchase the vehicle. The car dealers are in business to sell the cars and we must take our own responsibility for our actions when we make a decision. They only use convincing words to try growing up!
The bottom line is they sold me a lemon for a car. I bought a 2000 Honda Accord from them and now the transmission is gone. I paid 140000 for the car with a car payment of 408.00 per month i took the car back 3 times and each time they told me nothing was wrong with the car, now the whole transmission is gone the extended warrenty people said they were only going to pay for the internal parts and I had to pay for external parts which is totally wrong. They told me I could keep the car for six months and trade it in come to find out I can trade it in without puting another 2500 dollars down on a another car. The managers are rude and nasty they dont care. All they care about is selling a car. I dont have that kind of money, I bought the car so that I could have reliable transportation back and forth to work
I went to Pohanka hyundai because I wanted to get 2 hyundais. 1 for me and 1 for my wife. I am in the military and had just moved back to the states from overseas and had no cars. The dealership had great pricing online and was close so we decided to check things out.
Initially things were fine. We found the 2 cars we had been researching. We test drove them and I decided to talk numbers. I wanted to know the total costs of both cars after Tax, License and Title. My plan was to get the quote, go home and shop for insurance since I had none and come back the next day.
My wife and I go in the office to talk with one of the managers. I tell him what I want/. He gives me the pricing on the first car. Then asks Do we have a deal? I say no I need to know the price on the other car as well. Things start to get weird here. He says, yes but do we have a deal on this car? I tell hime no again and infrom of my wife says “What the F### are we doing here then?”
As calmly as I could, I explained to him that although I am buying 2 seperate cars the money is coming out of 1 paycheck so we don’t have a deal on either car until I get the price of both cars.
He gets me the quote and then asks do we have a deal. I said no again, I am going home to research insurance and discuss spending 30k with my wife before commiting. He curses again in from of my wife. It was at that point I took the quotes went to a Hyundai dealership in Waldorf and bought the cars for the same price.
Pohanka Hyundai your manager lost the sale of 2 cars.
