Makes an offer and then backed out of it after we signed it. We went to this dealership to purchase a new Ford Edge if we found the one we want. We came here because their website showed that they had the probably had a large stock of Edge cars. Also we had inquired thru their internet sales and received a good offer but not for the model of Edge we were wanting. We found the perfect car at the dealer. My husband had did tons of research to see what the actual/final price we should pay for the car. He researched the market value, rebates, trade value and what we should expect for our trade. At the dealer we sat down to work out the numbers. We gave the salesman the exact pay-off which was obtained from our credit union. He came back with an offer that was way higher than what should be paid for that car. My husband told him that we never have and never will pay sticker price as that is way higher than what it is worth. (FYI: that is why an new auto loses thousands of dollars in value the second you drive it off the lot) He also asked where the trade pay-off amount was. The salesman said that is figured somewhere in the payment but that is not his area so he does not know for sure where. My husband made an offer closer to what he had calculated that we should pay. The next offer came back close to what we wanted. Again he asked where the trade pay-off amount was, again it was said that it was figured somewhere in there. We accepted and signed the offer. The salesman went to go get the paperwork started. A few minutes he came back and said that there was a kink in the deal. The sales manager did not figure the trade pay-off in the deal and increased the agreed to offer $4000+ and was close to the original offer. They would not honor the agreed to and signed offer. We left without the car. It is too bad that we had to pay for the sales department’s mistake and that they are allowed to renig on the agreed offer. We will not recommend Phil Long dealerships to anyone.
